Institute of Marine Biology, Biotechnology and Aquaculture (IMBBC), Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR) | EMBRC

Institute of Marine Biology, Biotechnology and Aquaculture (IMBBC), Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR)

The main research activities of IMBBC refer to the study of biodiversity at all levels of biological organization, from genes to ecosystems (genomics, population genetic structure of natural and cultivated marine species, aquaculture, quest for novel and/or improved products and organisms, species identification, ecosystem functioning and protection, conservation and socio-economic and cultural factors), and throughout all observational scales (in sustainable use of marine biological diversity and its components accounting for all relevant space, time, function).

The institutes main research directions include:
* Genetics and molecular biotechnolog
* Biodiversity and ecosystem management
* Aquaculture
The research scheme also includes Horizontal Actions, which function in parallel with the research directions and have a cross-cutting approach:
* Bioinformatics and e-Infrastructure
* Environmental Chemistry and Microbiology
* Bioanalysis and Biotechnology
