Description:

The Marine Biology Station (MBS) of the National Institute of Biology (NIB) offers access to ecosystems by research vessel with on-board instruments and sampling equipment, and to SCUBA diving facilities. Moreover, MBS offers access to labs for chemical analysis including scintillation counter, molecular biology and microbiology manipulations, microscopy facilities, two growth chambers (10 m2), and a wet lab. MBS offers also the Oceanography Buoy “VIDA” as an in situ laboratory and installation site for specific measuring devices (sensors) bellow or above sea surface.

Description:

The Caribbean Netherlands Science Institute (CNSI) offers access to the Eastern Carribean island of St Eustatius ecosystem and its territorial waters, and the nearby and highly biodiverse Saba Bank, the largest submarine atoll in the Atlantic Ocean. The island is volcanic in origin with lush vegetation, ranging from primary rain forest to cactus and woodlands, seagrass beds and coral reefs. In the underwater coastal area, coral reef bombs and fingers, patch reefs, fringing reefs and drop off spur and groove systems, sandy bottom and seagrass beds form a varied landscape, home to a large number of species. CNSI offers access to a boat for 1 to 4 persons.

    The Kristineberg and Tjärnö marine stations of the Sven Lovén Centre for Marine Sciences have a large number of laboratories supplied with water from the surface and sea bottom drawn directly from the fjords. In many of them, both air and water temperatures can be controlled along with light levels. Outdoor experimental facilities consist of a greenhouse and installations in open-tank experimentation ("ecotrons") with access to a running supply of water from both the surface and bottom of the fjords. Experimental equipment for carying out biological research within areas that range from Ecology and Physiology to Taxonomy and Molecular Biology. Both stations will provide access to research platforms for molecular biology and genetics (PCR, HPLC), biohydrodynamic laboratories, top level SCUBA facilities, top level experimental aquaculture facilities, analytical chemistry (TRAACS, AAS), confocal laser microscope and digital imaging, SEM-Raman microscope and special laboratories for foreign species.
