A distributed research infrastructure
EMBRC is a ‘distributed research infrastructure’ (RI) with a central ‘hub’ or headquarters responsible for the coordination and centralised management of the organisation.
Our headquarters are located at the Sorbonne University in Paris, France. Our national partners (or ‘nodes’) in our member countries are composed of one or more marine stations. These stations provide services to EMBRC ‘users’, ie researchers or industry stakeholders from within the country or elsewhere in Europe and beyond.

Governance
EMBRC is governed by the GA, which includes two representatives from each EMBRC member country. The GA makes decisions regarding EMBRC’s strategy, governance, and scientific development.
The Executive Director is the executive and legal representative of EMBRC. This individual leads EMBRC’s secretariat, which is responsible for the general management and administration of EMBRC.
This board is composed of experts from and academia and industry who are elected by the GA. Its role is to advise the GA and the Executive Directive on strategic matters.
This committee serves as a link between EMBRC HQ and the national partners, ensuring that decisions made by the GA are implemented at national level. It also provides advice on development and technical issues.
