EMBRCxAQUASERV Trainings for Blue Economy

24 Jun 2026

As a partner in the EU-funded project AQUASERV, EMBRC works to train researchers and technical staff for sustainable blue economy sudies and applications, through its Marine Training platform, led by EMBRC’s Belgian marine partners.

EMBRC offers a series of courses for researchers and technicians through the EU-funded project AQUASERV.

Researchers and technical staff can access specialised training across a range of topics on the Marine Training platform, including:
・Microscopy and imaging techniques
・Sustainable aquaculture and fisheries applications
・Blue biotechnology training

These courses will help strengthen skills and share best practices to support research and innovation in blue economy sectors across Europe.

The courses will be released throughout the project, expanding the range of training opportunities available.

Microscopy for Marine Biology

Drawing on the expertise of microscopy specialists across the AQUASERV consortium, the course is cross-disciplinary while keeping marine organism imaging as the common thread. The training covers the underlying principles of optical microscopy and shows how to make the best use of imaging technologies available at research infrastructures — from brightfield to advanced approaches such as fluorescence, confocal, and lightsheet microscopy.

Marine Experimental Lipid Stress Applications for Sustainable Aquatic Systems (MELiSA)

MELiSA prepares users of EMBRC’s climate-controlled facilities and lipid biomarker laboratory to independently design and implement marine stress experiments. The course focuses on translating ecological research questions into feasible climate manipulation setups and biochemical workflows.
